Roofing Contractors in the Hollywood Hills
Up here the hard part is usually getting material up the hill and the old roof back down, and that belongs on the quote as its own line. We look at the roof and the access together, and the written quote is free.
- Free roof inspection
We come out, get on the roof, and tell you what we find.
- The price in writing
A written quote before anyone starts, with nothing to sign on the spot.
- Licensed roofers
Our roofer who comes out holds a current California license.
- Across Los Angeles County
From the Valley and the foothills to the Westside and the South Bay.
Up here a roof gets priced by where it is, not just by what is on it. The same roof costs one number on a flat street and another on a switchback off Laurel Canyon. You are paying to get material up to the house and the old roof back down to a truck.

What the hills' housing stock means for your roof
The mid-century hillside houses. Post-and-beam and hillside modern from the 1950s through the 1970s, cantilevered over the slope on Mount Olympus, the Bird Streets, the lots off Mulholland and up Nichols Canyon. Low-slope or dead-flat roofs sit over exposed beam ceilings. The surface is cap sheet or modified bitumen, and TPO where it has been redone. No attic, no crawl space, so no ventilation and nowhere to trace a leak from. Water that gets in shows on your living room ceiling that afternoon, often far from where it entered. Ponding, split seams, failed parapet and scupper flashings and tired skylight curbs are the recurring failures. Most of that is roof repair work long before it is a roof replacement.
The older canyon stock. Beachwood Canyon and Whitley Heights hold 1920s Spanish and storybook houses with low-pitched clay tile, deep eaves, and rooflines carrying more valleys and flashing per square foot than anything built since. Outpost Estates runs to steeper tile. The tile is usually fine and the underlayment is not: tile lasts fifty years or more, the felt beneath it rarely past twenty-five or thirty. So the work here is a lift and relay: sound tiles come off, new underlayment goes down, your existing tiles go back on.
The streets decide the rest. Much of the hills is narrow, steep street: blind curves, shared driveways, houses a story below the road or a hundred steps above it. There may be no driveway for a dumpster and no legal place to leave one on the street, so the old roof is carried down by hand, run down a conveyor, or lifted off by crane. Get it in writing before you sign: how the tear-off leaves the site, and where the truck and the dumpster will sit.

What roof work costs in the Hollywood Hills
These are estimate ranges for Los Angeles County, not quotes.
- Flat or low-slope systems:roughly $12,000 to $30,000.
- Composition shingle replacement:roughly $9,000 to $25,000 for a typical single-family roof.
- Tile lift and relay:roughly $12,000 to $30,000.
- New tile throughout:roughly $25,000 to $60,000 and up.
- Single-source leak repair on a skylight curb, a scupper, or a flat-roof seam: roughly $800 to $2,500.
- Emergency tarping:roughly $400 to $1,500.
- Solar removal and reinstallation:roughly $4,000 to $10,000 on top of the roof itself.
Expect the hills at the top of those ranges, not the middle. The roofing costs page lists what pushes a job to the top end: extra layers, soft decking, a cut-up roof, a street where everything gets carried. Up here you often have several at once.
Common questions about roofing in the Hollywood Hills
Why is my Hollywood Hills roof quote higher than the same roof down in the flats?
Access, almost always. If the tear-off has to be carried or conveyed instead of chuted into a dumpster, if the truck needs traffic control to stand still on a narrow hillside street, or if a crane is the only way material reaches the deck, that is real labor and equipment on a roof of identical size. Ask for it broken out as its own line.
